An incredible 7 day hike through varied landscape, which changes everyday!
You start out with lush green vegetation and as you keep climbing it keeps getting more and more stark
Here are some pictures from the first few days, when it wasn’t freezing and we could see some green!
Endless grasslands!
Walking through a pine forest
First glimpse of the majestic mountain! Honestly we panicked... we could not imagine climbing it!!
Just after sunrise, soaking in the beauty of the place
I could not get enough of the grasslands!
Then it kept getting stark with very sparse vegetation - It was incredible to see these changes unfold over just 7 days
Tundra dessert - this place, at an altitude of 4500 mt, never gets any rain
Almost at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro, oxygen was at less than 50% of what it is at sea level, but sheer beauty of the place pushed us through
Glaciers at the top of the mountain. But they are shrinking due to global warming and it is predicted that there wont be any glacier left in 50 years
Baranco Wall - Whoever has climbed Kilimanjaro would remember this wall! It is a vertical rock face which one needs to climb over - one of the most thrilling parts of the hike.
Waiting for the sun to rise over Mt Meru
Not the most comfortable sleeping arrangement, but the food was amazing!
Trying to get some sleep under a moon lit sky
Imagine waking up to this!
Waiting for morning hot chocolate :-)
The mountain had an extremely unpredictable weather
Once started off with a sunny day and by afternoon we were racing against approaching hail storm. Thankfully we managed to reach our tents just in the nick of time. But I did manage to take some pictures on the way!
Dendrosenecio kilimanjari plant
Navigating through the fog and running for safety from an approaching hail storm!
The last bend, before we reached our tent and escaped the approaching hail storm!
At the top!! - Wouldn’t have made it with out friends and an amazing crew
We made it!!!
Catching a breather and enjoying the sunrise before reaching the summit
